2 communist rebels killed in Catanduanes: military

MANILA — Two communist rebels were killed in an encounter with government troops in Panganiban town, Catanduanes early Sunday, the military said.

The rebels have yet to be identified. Authorities also recovered an AR15 rifle, according to the 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

The 83rd Infantry Battalion and Police Mobile Force Company (PMFC) exchanged firefight with at least 7 rebels for 10 minutes, it added.

The military said it has launched hot pursuit operations against the rebels.
