Business Mentor: Overcoming Anxiety in Business

You dreamed for a long time about owning your own business. But now that you are about to start to make your dreams a reality, you struggle with doubts.

Anxiety is tough to deal with and can become detrimental to an entrepreneur. It can lead to an aggressive cycle of apprehension, nervousness, stress, fear and a general sense of impending doom.

Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. You need to be strong to succeed with what you started.

Building and sustaining a business if difficult and stressful. You have to deal with so many uncertainties. You may be eager to become the next Gokongwei or Henry Sy, but always remember that success does not come overnight.

How To Deal With Anxiety

If you are struggling with anxiety, you need to seek a fresh perspective before you fall into unfavorable situations. 

If you see your friend or loved one going through anxiety, provide them with support rather than saying that “it is nothing to worry about.”

The person experiencing anxiety needs to go through a process of understanding the challenges that they are facing.

If you feel like you are being trapped in a web of uncertainties, reach out to someone who can help you assess your situation. That someone may be your friend, a family member or a mentor. This way, you will learn a fresh perspective on things.

Chances are, you will eventually realize that things aren’t as bad after all. Regardless of which person you reach out to, for as long as you relieve your worries, it is absolutely helpful.

Entrepreneurs, no matter how great they seem, are just as human as everybody else. They are likely to commit mistakes. As an entrepreneur, you should not be ashamed to admit that you are going through your own struggles.

If you find yourself struggling with any form of anxiety, don’t become hopeless. There are ways to overcome these challenges, no matter how huge they may seem.

You should learn how to change your behavior, your way of thinking and have control of your emotions.

Learn to identify what triggers the anxiety and find solutions on how you can positively respond to it, then you can slowly deconstruct the whole situation.

Figure out which element you are dealing with at the moment and work to change the situation.

There may be instances wherein you suddenly have unwanted thoughts– understand what these are and never let them take hold.

If you are experiencing any physical reaction, such as a migraine, do not ignore them. If you must, count 1-10 and breathe deeply. 

If you commit yourself to take the situation completely, take it one step at a time. In doing so, you will realize that everything can be more manageable.

While problems and struggles may seem insurmountable, always remember that they too will pass.

The entrepreneurial road is never smooth and straight. Just like life, a business is a journey full of challenges which are not meant to scare you or to discourage you. They strengthen you on your journey towards success.

Learn to separate your thoughts and feelings from yourself. You don’t have to let anxiety run your life. You will control your own life.
