China welcomes probe on death of Chinese national in PH

MANILA – The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines welcomed the Philippine government’s commitment to investigate the incident involving a Chinese national.

The Chinese Embassy said it has been closely following the case of a Chinese national who lost his life while escaping from a building.

“The Chinese Embassy highly appreciate the Palace’s call to put a stop to these illegal acts, as well as the commitment to protecting the safety of Chinese citizens in the Philippines,” the embassy said in a statement Monday.

A Chinese national was found dead wearing handcuffs after falling from a building in Las Piñas City, Friday morning.

According to a report from the Las Piñas police, the victim identified as Yang Kang was handcuffed by his employer.

Police said the victim was last found alive at about 4 p.m. Thursday, when he was confronted by his supervisor “Shiba” due to debts.

Malacañang has expressed alarm over the incident and ordered the Philippine National Police to look into the incident and track down the supervisor of the victim.

Philippine authorities also urged foreign nationals, especially Chinese workers, to report to authorities any act of their employers that violates the law.
