Holiday gift ideas: Personalize your denim jeans, jacket

MANILA — Just weeks after its Christmas ad touched hearts and
went viral online, denim giant Levi’s has opened its first
permanent tailor shop at SM Makati, allowing customers to
personalize their denims.

The Levi’s Tailor Shop, located at the second floor of the SM
Department Store, allows shoppers to collaborate with a tailor
to place original patches, studs, and collectible pins for a
more personalized garment — just like in the ad.

“We’re very happy with the success of that,” Kat Costas,
marketing manager of Levi’s Philippines, told ABS-CBN News at
the shop’s opening last November 30. “It’s really authentic to
what the brand is about, a father able to show his love through
a customized jacket.”

The Levi’s Tailor Shop, which is also opening in Robinsons
Place Iloilo, offers other services such as hemming for jeans
and custom fabric paneling for trucker jackets.

Costas pointed out that Levi’s has actually been offering
tailoring services for five years now at pop-up stores in
events and malls. The positive response to the service during
these pop-up events convinced the brand to finally open a
permanent tailor shop.

“There’s a clamor for it. People keep asking us when’s the next
event. It’s better really to have a permanent store. The demand
is there and people really want to personalize and customize
already,” she said.

“It’s really at the heart of Levi’s to offer customers a venue
where they can express themselves. It’s really at the core of
Levi’s because of if you look at our brand it’s pretty basic,
it’s really a blank canvas. And we really want the customer to
inject their personality and their style to it. That’s why we
offer things like this” she added.

Despite the opening of the permanent tailor shops, Costas
assured that they will continue to do pop-ups.

“Until the end of the year, we have lots of events still, SM
Megamall, Festival Mall, and Glorietta. We’re really giving the
market the chance to customize,” she said.

As for other permanent tailor shops, she said: “We just have to
stay tuned to what will happen next year.”
