The inside-outside combo of Justine Baltazar and Aljun Melecio worked wonders for De La Salle University as it overwhelmed Arellano University, 95-62, Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Baltazar posted a powerful 21-point, 16-rebound double-double while Melecio scored 16 of his own to go along with seven assists and two rebounds for the Green Archers who rumbled to a 4-1 standing in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament.
Encho Serrano and Jordan Bartlett also added 16 and 11 points, respectively, as the Taft-based team went wild in the second half when they turned a three-point deficit into a 32-point win.
For the Chiefs, Darrel Bayla showed the way with 19 points and seven rebounds. Returning court general Kent Salado chipped in 14 markers as well only to see his side remain winless in four games.
Meanwhile, Jose Rizal University gifted new head coach Louie Gonzalez his first win, an 84-78 decision against Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Second-year swingman Agem Miranda topped the scoring column with 25 points on top of four steals while rookie point guard John Delos Santos chimed in 16 markers as the Heavy Bombers finally lifted off for a 1-3 record.
The Generals hold a similar slate even after the best efforts of Chester Carlos who had 17 points.
