MANILA — Eddie Alvarez’s reputation as an MMA superstar can be intimidating, but members of Team Lakay believe Eduard Folayang will be able to overcome “The Underground King” on August 2.
Joshua Pacio, the reigning ONE strawweight king, said Alvarez looks lethal because of his volume punching.
“Para sa akin, si Eddie, volume puncher at wrestler,” Pacio said.
“Pero si Kuya Eduard sa tingin ko mas maraming weapons. Ginagamit niya ang sipa at suntok niya. Kaya I think mananalo si kuya Eduard kasi mas marami siyang option.”
Former bantamweight champion Kevin Belingon agrees.
“Kayang kaya ni Kuya Eduard iyon. 100 percent confident kami na makukuha ni Eduard ang panalo kasi kita naming siya kung paanong magtraining,” he said.
Folayang will take on Alvarez in the co-main event of ONE: Dawn of Heroes at MOA Arena. He is coming off a title defeat against Shinya Aoki last March which means he will be returning with much hunger to win, according to his coach.
“Ang maganda sa kanya hindi basta basta natitinag ‘yan. ‘Pag natalo ‘yan, expect mong babawi at babawi,” said Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao.
“Knowing him, metally tough siya. Pinipilit talaga niya sa training, kitang kita mo sa kanya na pursigido siyang manalo sa susunod.”
