MPBL: Iloilo thwarts Nueva Ecija late rally; San Juan remains perfect

Richard Escoto scored 18 points and Rey Publico contributed 16 points on a perfect 8 of 8 shooting from the field, as Iloilo United Royals survived a late rally to beat Nueva Ecija MiGuard 92-90 in the 2019 MPBL Lakan Cup on Wednesday.

Iloilo was ahead 89-77 with less than 3 minutes remaining at Olivarez College Gymnasium in Parañaque, when Nueva Ecija uncorked a 13-2 run to come to within 91-90 with 40 seconds left in the game.

But JR Cawaling missed the potential game-winning jump shot, as United Royals came away with its 3rd win in 4 games.

Nueva Ecija dropped to 1-4.

In the second game, John Wilson scored 22 points, and defending champion San Juan Knights routed Bacolod Master’s Sardines 95-71 to stay undefeated at 4-0.

Bacolod fell to 2-3.

In the third game, Jemal Vizcarra scored 20 points to lead Parañaque Patriots to an 82-71 win over Navotas Uni-Pak Sardines.

Patriots raised its record to 2-3, while Uni-Pak Sardines slid to 1-2.
