MANILA – Opposition slate Otso Diretso canceled their morning campaign activities in Isabela province Thursday after their plane turned back to Manila due to “low runway visibility.”

Senatorial candidates Romulo Macalintal, Erin Tañada, Pilo Hilbay and Samira Gutoc were aboard a Cebu Pacific flight bound for Tuguegarao at around 9 a.m. when they were notified that they could not land at the airport.

“Due to poor visibility, the pilot failed to land the plane on his second attempt. He decided for the safety of the passengers to return to Manila,” Tañada said in a tweet.

The opposition ticket was scheduled to appear in townhall meetings with barangay officials and farmers.

They were also supposed to have lunch with Cauayan City Mayor Bernard Dy and local officials.

The slate is trying to rebook tickets for flights on March 15, Friday, an Otso Diretso staffer told reporters.
