MANILA (UPDATE)—Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo early Friday rode a jeepney after he was challenged to take public transportation on his way to Malacañang.
Clad in white polo and cap and without security detail, Panelo took selfies of his commute.
“I don’t want to make a spectacle of this,” he told radio DZMM, adding he refused to be escorted and covered by the media.
Panelo, who earlier drew flak for allegedly downplaying daily commuter woes, maintained he was misunderstood.
“Hindi niyo kasi iniintindi ang sinasabi ko, pareho ng hindi niyo pag-intindi kay presidente [Rodrigo Duterte] ‘pag nagsalita eh,” he said.
He added, “Walang crisis kasi walang paralysis. Pero may crisis tayo pagdating sa paghihirap ng mga kababayan natin.”
Panelo took 2 jeepney rides, but will not be going directly to Malacañang.
“Hindi ganun kasimple ang problema ng bayan eh, lalo na sa Metro Manila,” he told his critics.
“Matagal na akong nagko-commute. Laking kalsada tayo. Sabi ko nga, mali sila ng hinamon,” he added.
