Sardine firm Mega seeks control of canning process

MANILA — Sardine canning firm Mega wants control over can production to help control costs and quality as it seeks to double its market share, its CEO said Monday.

Cans, when not produced properly, can rust easily, said William Tiu Lim. Mega wants to grow its market share to as large as 40 percent from the current 20 percent, he said.

“We have the fishing. We control the quality. We have canning group. What we lack is control of the can. It’s a very important factor,” he said.

Fuel cost is the biggest challenge for the company, he said.
