Spotify is testing personalized song recommendations in official playlists

Spotify is testing out personalization for its editor-curated
according to a report today from Hypebot
. In one
named example, songs that Spotify’s algorithm believed a user
would like were mixed into a hand-curated workout playlist. A
source independently confirmed the test to The Verge.

The test appears to only be showing for select users and on
mid-tier playlists. Whether Spotify plans to roll this out as a
permanent feature is still to be determined — the company runs
tests all the time for groups of users. But having Spotify’s
algorithm shuffle in songs individualized for each user on
playlists could be one way to keep the content fresh, as most
playlists are updated by curators on a weekly basis.
