Sustainable dev’t pushed as PH construction sector grows

MANILA – Sustainable development should be implemented to
prevent further damage to the country’s natural resources as
the construction sector experiences tremendous growth, a
stakeholder said on Monday. 

“There are certain parts of Bohol and Siargao that must be
counter-checked early on so that they will not suffer,” said
Cathy Saldaña, owner of PDP Architects and a speaker in the
upcoming Worldbex 2018.

Bohol and Siargao are among the popular beach destinations of
the Philippines, aside from Boracay. 

Green architectural designs should be used to sustain growth,
which benefits many sectors, Saldaña said.

The retail and residential markets are “very much alive,” while
the “tremendous” growth in the healthcare and hospitality
industry– including hotels, resorts, spas and
restaurants–cushions the slowdown of the business process
outsourcing (BPO) sector.

“It’s happening at a great phase not just because we have a lot
of international tourists coming in but also because our
domestic tourism is doing very well,” she added.
